Hundreds of local high school students and mentors will gather at Milford High School this Friday and Saturday for the FIRST Robotics Competition district event.
Robotics teams, including those from Huron Valley Schools (Lakeland, Milford and International Academy West) and Walled Lake Schools (Walled Lake Central, Walled Lake Northern and Walled Lake Western) will be competing in the event.
Each Michigan high school team participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition attends two qualifiers, or district events. Utilizing a points system, teams earn points based on robot performance and judged awards. Teams are ranked, and a predetermined number of teams advance to a state championship.
For the competition, teams produce a commercial product that is designed, machined, programmed and marketed to win. Products include a robot capable of playing a game. The game of this year’s competition is “Infinite Recharge.”
The district event is free and open to the public. Milford High School is located at 2380 S. Milford Road. For more information, visit firstinmichigan.us.
