Bike Safety Rodeo May 18

We are hosting our second annual Bike Safety Rodeo on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m. This free event is open to the public, hosted by Cub Scout Pack 227 at Walled Lake Northern in the north parking lot. Kids ages 6-10, bring your bikes (with or without training wheels) and wear helmets and closed toed shoes. Bikes are safety checked and adjusted on-site by a local bike shop. Then, ride fun course stations in the north parking lot at WLN. For questions or more information, email commercepack227@gmail.com.

Commerce Township Area Historical Society Membership Meeting May 18

Topic: History of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. Speaker: Margo Forrester, curator of the American Legion Auxiliary Northwestern Post-Unit 459 Poppy Museum. Join us to learn the history of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. From Flanders field, to Moina Micheal, to those who continue to make the poppy an international symbol of remembrance. Refreshments will be served. Feel free to bring a picture to share and remember a loved one who served. Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Stonecrest Building (207 Liberty Street in Walled Lake.)

Art Exhibit Opening May 19

The Village Fine Arts Association welcomes the public to this free reception with light finger food and refreshments at the Suzanne Haskew Art Center, 125 S. Main St., Suite 700, Milford. The exhibit, on display until June 13, features original work by local artists and showcases a theme of Waterways. Many of the items are for sale and proceeds help support art programs! Little Movers Dancing Fun May 20

Bring your little mover and shaker for non-stop dance action! Twist and groove to music from around the world for 30 minutes, with the last 30 minutes devoted to multicultural crafts. Tigers Day at Woodside Bible Church May 20

On Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Woodside Bible Church in White Lake is hosting a baseball clinic for kids and parents. Long-time Detroit Tigers pitcher Frank Tanana, alongside other current Tigers players, will share some tips about the game they love and share their story of faith in Christ. Each participant will get opportunities to observe and learn baseball tips. Ballpark food will be served for lunch as the event wraps up. South Side Concert May 20

The Village Fine Arts Association, Rivers Edge Brewery and Michigan Rock School, Milford, present the fourth in a series of four concerts to benefit The SHAC. The concert is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5 at the door which directly benefits the art programs at The SHAC. There will also be a silent auction of items with all proceeds benefiting The SHAC. Food by Pita Cruiser will be available for purchase, as well as craft brews and wine from the Rivers Edge Brewery. The Suzanne Haskew Art Center (The SHAC) is located at 125 S. Main Street, Suite 700 in Milford, next door to the Rivers Edge Brewery. The concert is 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, May 20. Zonta Club Fundraiser at the Clothing Cove May 23

When: May 23 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Where: Clothing Cove in Milford. Cause: 100 percent of proceeds goes to women locally and internationally to help improve their lives through education, school supplies and employment opportunities. Tickets will get participant admittance to event, entered in silent auction, special sale prices and refreshments. Ticket prices are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Plein Aire Painting Demonstration May 24

The Village Fine Arts Association (VFAA) invites the public to hear guest speaker, award winning artist, Jill Stefani Wagner, demonstrate the art of plein aire painting (French for “in the open air.”) Jill will discuss essential concepts and techniques for this method of capturing landscapes and views in natural light. VFAA informational meetings are free and open to anyone interested in the Milford area art scene and are on the fourth Wednesday of each month, January through October at The SHAC (125 S. Main St., Milford, Suite 700; next door to Rivers Edge Brewery.) Mav Jam WheelHouse Charity Concert May 25

Members of the community are invited to gather in Milford Central Park for an evening of fun, food and live music during the Mav Jam, a local fundraiser benefiting the Milford High School football program. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward maintaining the quality and safety of the equipment, team building retreats and football camp. Food, t-shirts and a 50/50 raffle will be available for purchase, while guests enjoy a free concert by WheelHouse. Concessions open at 5 p.m. followed by a pep rally hosted by the Milford cheerleading team and Center Stage, the school’s music program. Wheelhouse will take the stage from 7 to 10 p.m.
