After over two months on the job, Laura Bolyard says she is settling into her new digs as executive Bolyard.Bolyard.director of the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

She replaced long-time executive director Jo Alley, who retired in December after nearly 20 years on the job.

“Whenever I would think of actually leaving this job, the feelings were always bittersweet,” Alley said in an email to chamber members. “I have loved the chamber and I’m thankful for the 18 years I was able to spend here … I am completely confident that the time is right and the board has found an excellent replacement for me.”

Bolyard joins the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce after nearly 20 years of prior chamber work and experience. Most recently, she worked as the office and events manager at the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce from 2006-2016. Before that, she worked as the office coordinator, and then co-executive director, of the South Lyon Chamber of Commerce from 1999-2005.

“I really like the idea that [the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce] is a real regional chamber; we’ve got some diverse communities that we serve,” Bolyard said. “I just thought it was a great opportunity for me to grow professionally, but maybe bring something different to this chamber and kind of see what we could make happen together.”

“I’m excited about the opportunity to pick up where Jo left off,” she continued. “She has done a great job and I know I have big shoes to fill.”

Moving forward, Bolyard says she is looking forward to adding new opportunities for chamber members, as well as continuing the chamber’s community involvement.
