After sustaining a fire last June that gutted the Jet’s Pizza of Walled Lake, managing partner Jennifer Hill is ecstatic to be open for business.

“We had to re-build from scratch. The base of our oven was one of the few things that was salvageable,” said Hill. “Virtually everything is new. It was difficult to go through the devastating feeling of watching your business burn, but the joy of reopening has been invigorating.”

During the six months the store was closed, the phone rang dozens of times a day.

Located at 1126 North Pontiac Trail, just north of East Maple Road, Jet’s Pizza of Walled Lake continued to pay their employees even though the business was not open. Hill and her two partners felt like it was the right thing to do. Many of the Jet’s Pizza staff have worked at the restaurant for more than ten years.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Walled Lake Central football and most of their other athletic activities. During the football season, we continued our service by cooking pizzas at another one of our stores in Wixom,” stated Hill. “My husband, DJ, and 10-yearold daughter Addison go to almost every home football game to assist with the concession stands. We love the closeness of the Walled Lake and Commerce Township communities. Their well wishes via voicemails and drive-by appearances were so very much appreciated while we were closed.”

Jet’s Pizza of Walled Lake had 20 employees the day of the fire, all of whom were paid throughout the reconstruction period.

Assistant Store Manager Josh Wright has been making pizzas and other customer favorites since the Walled Lake Jet’s Pizza opened in 2006. The fact that he continued to get paid was a testament to the owners and their commitment to employees.

“Getting paid was a class act,” said Wright. “We are a close-knit group and like a family. Jennifer trusts us. We all have input into the operation and things that will make our food and operation better.”

General Manager Terry Carpenter said the owners are the “best people in the world” to work for. “I’ll be here until they kick me out. The owners are awesome.”
