It was a little over a year ago when Milford author Kirt Manecke released his first book aimed to help employers and employees improve their customer service skills. And now, he’s back at it again.

Manecke recently released his second book, “Smile & Succeed for Teens: Must Know People Skills for Today’s Wired World.”

“It’s a crash course in people skills to ensure that teens succeed in school, work and life,” Manecke said. “It’s based on my first book, but it’s customized for teens and it’s got the addition of 50 informative illustrations with educational captions.”

Smile & Succeed for Teens, touted as a “crash course,” is designed to be read cover-to-cover quickly and easily. Interesting facts, fun illustrations, famous quotations, real life examples, and how-to illustrations help teens master and apply the information.

With sections like “Make Good Eye Contact,” “Turn Off the Electronics,” Find that Job” and “Don’t Make the Customer Wait,” Manecke says the book delivers both the basics, and a few surprises, to make teens become expert communicators.

“This book gives readers the words and ammunition needed to succeed,” he said. “I’m excited about seeing how it helps teens become successful adults and people that give back to their community.”

Manecke spent one year working with a focus group of teens, parents, grandparents and teachers. After reading the manuscript they offered feedback, one of the reasons Manecke says the book is so inspiring to teens. The book was also tested in a classroom of 120 students in Flat Rock, Arkansas.

Manecke’s first book, “Smile: Sell More With Amazing Customer Service,” is the recipient of eight awards including the prestigious Mom’s Choice Gold Award. Luxury department store Neiman Marcus uses the book for training and local schools, including Lakeland and Hartland high schools, use the book in their curriculum.

“I do want to do another book, which will be a children’s book. Then I’ll have all of the age ranges covered,” Manecke said. “It would be a real simple picture book with topics like how to share. I’ve already got some schools that are anxious to test the manuscript with their students.” Smile & Succeed for Teens is available for $9.95 at Main Street Art in downtown Milford, Casa De Amici (inside Colasanti’s Market) in Highland, at online booksellers, at www.SmileforTeens.com or by calling 248-685-0483.
